We only allow a maximum of 6 learners to attend this course as this ensures our learners receive the appropriate amount of support and plenty of hands on opportunity to learn this healthcare skill with our Experienced Phlebotomy Trainer.

This Approved Train the Trainer course is delivered by Healthcare Professionals and Trainers with many years of on-the-job experience and who can guide you through the theoretical and practical elements of this essential healthcare skill and answer any questions that may arise during your training.

We feel proud to be able to deliver our Approved Trainer Course in Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Training as we want all our Approved Trainers to have the required support and experience to support their learners to deliver high-quality training in their healthcare workplace.

Venepuncture and phlebotomy go hand-in hand, so our courses cover both the puncturing of a vein (venepuncture) and the process of drawing blood from the venepuncture site (phlebotomy).

The areas covered by this training:

Self-Directed Learning – 6 Hours

• Learners are assessed prior to attending the training course through the suitability of their qualifications, skills, and experience.

• Our course is delivered through blended learning which consists of 6 hours of self-directed learning by completing the 10-minute Micro-Teach preparation, completion of a lesson plan by researching best practices and familiarising themselves with the standards for Phlebotomy outlined by Skills for Health CHS132 (National Occupational Standard for Obtaining Venous Blood Samples), WHO guidelines on drawing blood: best practices in phlebotomy and their workplace policy and procedure.

• The 10 Minute Micro-Teach must include Defining Phlebotomy, discuss the importance of communication skills, consent and record keeping, a good or bad experience they have encountered or witnessed of phlebotomy, how will they support staff in their healthcare workplace to promote best practices of Phlebotomy in line with their workplace policy and procedure.

Classroom Attendance – 6 Hours

• Approved Train the Trainer Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practical Training Session PowerPoint

• Deliver a 10-minute micro-teach assessment to the group and trainer/ assessor who completes a formal observation assessment.

• Group work and reflective activities.

• Trainer practical simulation assessment of obtaining an artificial venous blood sample.

• A final Trainer Knowledge assessment test where the learner must score 75% above to pass.

• Ongoing assessment is observed through paper review, and visual observations of the learners work completed over the 12 hours. Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Approved Train the Trainer is internally assessed.

Where the training happens - We deliver this training course at our training room in Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.

Entry Requirements

• Learners must have a relevant care-related qualification accredited/ awarded at Level 3 or above or be a Nurse/ Health Professional

• Previous Phlebotomy/ Venepuncture CPD Certificate or Qualification. If you do not have a current certificate, you can attend our course

• 2 Years’ Experience practising Phlebotomy/ Venepuncture.

• We would recommend learners to work towards a Level 3 Award in Education and Training and/or Level 3 Certificate in assessing competence in the work environment but is not essential for this course as your trainer skills will be assessed and Quality Assurance is provided as part of your Approved Trainer Membership with Passion4Training.

Course Duration: 12 Hours.

Certification: On successful completion of the course, attendees will be issued with an accredited approved train the trainer certificate (12 CPD Credits)

Our training premises are located by the Jewellery Quarter Train Station which is a 5-minute walk to Hylton Street.
