Description

Back by popular demand – the hit workshop from 2024! Learn to sing traditional songs from Zimbabwe and southern Africa in a warm and welcoming environment and have a great time in the process.

Your teacher is Bruce Ncube, is an award winning and internationally recognised artist and teacher. He works with thousands of people yearly across the globe, in person and virtually.

Bruce specialises in teaching songs from his native country of Zimbabwe and some parts of southern Africa in three- to six-part harmonies. Teaching in multiple languages, Bruce seeks to preserve, uphold and protect the unique African culture through music and storytelling. This work also builds bridges between different communities and people from all walks of life.

His approach inclusive and highly participatory, building people's confidence in singing. Bruce sticks very much in the aural way of learning and teaching, teaching music by ear. This is reminiscent of the times when people in Africa would gather around a fire in the evenings, at weddings and funerals, and whilst tilling the land. The people would raise their voices and start weaving harmonies together.

If you weren’t with us in 2024 you may have seen Bruce at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Glastonbury, WOMAD, Natural Voice Network (where he was a keynote speaker), Camp Wildfire, Lancaster Music Festival, World Music Workshop Festival, Skye Festival, Jazz & World Sounds (Shetland Islands), and Aberdeen International Youth Festival, amongst many other engagements around the world.
