Artist networking event bringing creatives together to connect, share practice, and hear from established artists working across experimental sound and digital culture, hosted by FutureEverything and SEESAW.
Looking for new ways to connect with Greater Manchester creatives? Join us for the PROTO Artist Social, an event created in collaboration with arts organisation FutureEverything and arts and culture venue SEESAW!
Whether you’re an established artist or just starting out, this event is for anyone with a passion for art, a curiosity for technology and music production, and an interest in meeting potential future collaborators.
Featuring presentations of new work, live audio visual demonstrations and DJ sets, this special sonic-focused edition of PROTO offers the chance to hear from established Greater Manchester musicians and artists who are exploring new and experimental approaches to audio and performance.
We have the pleasure of being joined by Hulme-based sound and electronic media artist Vicky Clarke, whose work explores materiality, electrical phenomena and ritual. Producing music under the moniker SONAMB, Vicky released her debut album, SLEEPSTATES, ‘‘a glitchy experimental techno jerker” (Boomkat) in 2022. She has featured on FACTmag’s PatchNotes series, and was awarded an Oram Award from PRS Foundation for innovation in sound in 2020.
Vicky will introduce her artistic practice working in music production, diy electronics, sculpture and digital art, and how these threads intertwine within her performance and installation work. You’ll be treated to a live AV demo featuring her electronic interfaces and circuits, and get a behind the scenes peek at her latest project LATENT SPACES, an exhibiting of new work coming to SEESAW Oct 23rd - 26th.
Providing a soundtrack to the night is Polish selector Kacper Pieta, a DJ and radio presenter who has built a serious reputation for deep cuts and life-affirming sets. Kacper will be spreading positivity with his carefully crafted set that has taken him everywhere from Japan, Australia and Spain to some of the most respected venues and festivals around the UK. Kacper has become somewhat of a household name at SEESAW, bringing smile-widening sessions featuring Jazz Funk, City Pop, Brazilian disco, Soulful House and the funkiest cuts from his native Poland.
This event is part of the Oxford Road Corridor’s Cultural Welcome to connect students to the venues along the corridor - a series of free events designed to help you discover Manchester’s vibrant creative communities.
